RUSSIAN LESSONS
I have been teaching Russian as a foreign language for more than 10 years. I have taught Russian in Russia to American students, in France and in Canada to adult beginners. Through these years I have elaborated an exclusive method of learning Russian very easily. My method will allow you to read, learn grammar in a very simple and logical way and build a useful vocabulary for everyday situations.
Now I teach Russian in Montreal (in English and in French) as a private tutor and I offer Russian lessons via Skype so you can have the opportunity to learn this language from the comfort of your home.

BEFORE WE START
Before we start a course, I always ask the students several questions in order to fully understand their goals and to plan my lessons accordingly.
- What is your goal in learning Russian? Why do you want to learn it? is it for future travel (tourism or business trip) or a professional project? or is it learning a new language for pleasure, as a new challenge, like a New Year's resolution?
- At what level are you? maybe have you started to learn Russian by yourself or at the university/in a group in a language school a few years ago, but forgot the most of it and want to refresh your memory? Maybe you realized that when you started Russian in a language school, you didn't like the class program and you prefer individual lessons?
- How much time per week do you want to spend learning Russian? I usually advise 2-3 hours a week, but, of course, the more lessons you take, the faster you progress.
- I adapt my lessons to EACH student depending on their goals: learning language for a professional project, a trip or just for fun.
MY METHODS: READING, SPEAKING, COMMUNICATING
My goal is to teach you how to communicate in Russian. I'm still learning languages myself, so I know what you are going through while starting a new language (we have to understand the language mechanisms and its structure).
First of all, with my method, you will learn reading: in fact most people think that Russian is very difficult because of the "strange" Cyrillic alphabet, but it is not true. There are only 33 letters in the alphabet and my students are fully able to learn how to read within 3 hours maximum!
While starting to read in Russian, you learn the pronunciation, but again, it is very easy: we have the same intonation pattern as other European languages.
In order to communicate, we have to get acquainted with the notions of the grammar, but learning grammar shouldn't be the aim in itself (grammar for the grammar's sake). I have prepared well-organized grammar sheets that explain very clearly the grammar cases.
I use a main textbook which is "made in Russia" for foreign students studying Russian at the Moscow State University (the most prestigious one in Russia). This textbook contains all useful vocabulary for every day's life: basic situations like telling about yourself, finding your way, buying things, ordering a meal in a restaurant, shopping on a market, etc. I also use some excerpts from other manuals (in English or in French).
In case you want to learn Russian via Skype with me, I will simply send you a scanned copy of a lesson and my grammar material by email, so when we meet over Skype, you can use it as printed or on screen.

MY ADVANTAGES
- This is a communication method.
- Easy grammar (no more thick volumes of grammar manuals!)
- Flexible schedule: you choose the time (usually my students prefer evenings). I am also available on weekends!
- No class, no stress, no comparison with other students: I adapt to your pace.
- Questions are more than welcome: we can always stop and go back if you forgot something or want more explanation - I am more than happy to revise things with you. I encourage my students to ask questions ("why?" "how do I say...") even if it is not really connected to the topic of our lesson.
- Mistakes are welcome too!!! I do think that mistakes make us progress, like in our common life. I consider that nobody is able to learn how to speak a language perfectly "right away". We have to make mistakes so we can memorize words or expressions or when we learn grammar. Knowing that Russian has a different grammar and sentence structure, you will make mistakes at first, but slowly but surely, you will feel more confident while speaking. I correct my students' mistakes gently, but not to criticize but for your improvement.
- Friendly atmosphere of learning helps your progress: I always want to create a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Take your time, I'm not pushing. I am here to help and encourage you!
